I chose the article regarding the faith healing parents who refused to use medical protocol for their sick children. As I glanced at the article I assumed that it would be easy to set apart each side of the arguments until I noticed that this controversial topic seemed to be one sided. Pretty much everyone agreed that these parents should have sought medical attention for their children but at the same time most people agree that prayer does heal. Prayer healing over medical treatment can only work to a certain extent. I believe that children who are extremely ill should first seek medical attention and then the prayers will help with the healing once they are under the supervision of a doctor. I searched the web for similar incidents of prayer healing and mostly found that most parents admit their children into hospitals and then they perform prayer healing. Prayer healing has worked countless times but medical attention is required. I came across some articles where parents were charged with manslaughter because they did not seek medical attention for their children. It was very difficult to find arguments that were in agreement with prayer treatment over medical care. As I searched deeper into the web I found arguments stating that people have religious freedom and it should not be infringed upon. To make each argument more valid I will definitely have to get some new thoughts on how to approach arguments in favor of prayer healing. This map helped give me an idea of what I need to focus more on and will help with the rest of project one.

I think it's good that you found at least a few articles that support prayer healing, when it's a pretty one-sided issue for the most part. There's always going to be something/someone else out there that disagrees or agrees. Your map also looks good, I like that you added the links of the articles you found into your separate stakeholders. They're just easier to reference that way. You also did a good job expanding on the viewpoints each article provided. I think you should try labeling each stakeholder though, just so that way you can elaborate on why each one of them is involved with the issue. But other than that it looks great!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Brooks. I think it would be very beneficial to name to individual stakeholders at the top of each different box. I think that keeps it more organized and easier to look back on later on. Other than that I think your map is pretty good!
DeleteI like how detailed your map is. I also like how you took quotes out of different articles to show the different opinions. However, you didn’t really include stake holders. For example, doctors might be a stakeholder. Then within that box you would describe what you think their overall opinion on the issue might be. For this article, I agree that it is a little one sided but to every issue there are always two sides. For example, people within the same church of the parents would probably agree with what the parents did. I feel like this might take a little more thought to find both sides, but it could make for a great essay.
ReplyDeleteI like your map and I agree with the above comment that is very detailed. I think this article definitely was pretty one sided. The only people that agree with prayer over medical attention, are these parents and other people within that same church. I definitely applaud you for digging so deep on the Internet and doing more research than you probably should have, haha. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI really like this map! It has a lot of information about your topic that can educate the reader in knowing what the map is about. I think its a great thing that you don't only have posts from the blog but other articles that you have found fro your own research. One thing that does come out to me that you could do better with is organizing the information into categories. Such as actual articles that you have found on the web and with what was said in the blog. And maybe some more color would be helpful as well. That is just an idea but overall your map is really good and the strongest part about it is how much information you have. The goal is to give a overall look into what the topic is and show every angle that can be shown and I think you really captured that in this map.
ReplyDeleteThis map is very good in terms of the info that it provides. However it does not explicitly list the several different stakeholders on the view. It would be more clear and easy to understand if you included more generalized subject topics for each of your boxes. That way, it is much simpler for the reader to see the different perspectives that you are trying to portray. This is especially important when writing argumentive essays, where you need to explicitly point out your view to the reader so that they know what you are talking about.
ReplyDeleteI think this map is done very well and is super informative. We can all tell that you put a lot of time into the research needed for each of your stakeholders. I think there may be a few stakeholders you may be missing but this is a very good start! You really seemed to narrow down fairly fast though which is not necessarily a bad thing but it may make it harder to find things to talk about for the paper. However, going back to having good research it’s good that you did some of your own research instead of just blog posts. I think the extra research will make a significant difference in the quality of your paper. As some of the comments above stated, finding articles that touched on the other side of the article would enhance your paper as well.
ReplyDeleteI think your topic is a very strong and important one and I am very glad that someone is doing a project on it. When it comes to your map, I can see that you put a lot of effort into organizing your thoughts about the topic. However, I think defining the stakeholders more clearly would help a lot. I like that you added details in each bubble, but I think that there is a little too much information in the map and not enough clear definitions. For example, a stakeholder could be someone who agrees that the parents should go to prison, and someone who disagrees. I think adding details about the stories are good, but I think more of the focus should be on the actual people, the stakeholders.
