Documentary Blackfish
I chose to watch the documentary Blackfish. As a child being from California I loved going to sea world. It was one of my favorite theme parts besides Disneyland. As a child I never even imagined that those whales I was watching in the water could ever hurt someone. After watching this documentary I realized those are vicious animals and are not safe. I chose to pause the documentary at the point where the whale "Shamu" was bowing in front of the audience. I chose this because it still shows some of the good in the show. I hate thinking that Sea World could be bad and that trainers are being hurt. I understand trainers have been hurt and I think it is awful but people still love to see these killer whales put on a show. Overall this is one of my favorite documentaries and I have watched it numerous times!
Documentary and Shots
I apologize for the late post. I have been having
difficulties with my computer. I chose to watch "Blackfish" on
Netflix because I heard it was about the killer whales and I always like a
documentary that gives me a good thrill. I stopped the film at this scene
because it shows how the Orcas cannot survive physically or mentally in a
closed environment. Killer whales deserve to be in the open where they can
breed and feed in their natural habitat. This picture is in one of the taming
pools at Sea World and it shows the Orca about to body slam the trainer. I like
this picture a lot because you can see the terror in the trainers face because these
animals are freaks of nature and do not need to be fooled around with by
humans. I think all of us need to watch this documentary because once you do, I
believe it will change your view on places like Sea World.
Documentary
I chose to watch the documentary Blackfish. My Brother had actually sat down and talked to me about the movie and how bizarre it had been to watch, so, given that I am always curious to watch new show, I put it on my to do list. I chose to screen shot the moment where the directors took this stunning image of the whales in their natural habitat and in their natural "pods" as they are called. There is more than meets the eye to this story. This story of Tilikum is really a controversial topic and it brings numerous arguments to the table when discussing the state of some animals in captivity versus their state in the wild. throughout watching it you just get this sense of sympathy not only for those who were hurt and/or killed in these instances but you also feel a strong sense of sympathy towards these animals. one only begins to realize the slightest wrong doing of SeaWorld with these great big fish. However, aside from all of the controversy, I really enjoyed the film. It opened my eyes to the many wrongful doings of people in these so-called controlled environments and gave glimpse to how naive some people really are to this issue of the Black fish.

Blackfish
I chose Blackfish as the documentary I wanted to watch, mainly because I heard a lot of great things about it. I chose to screen shot the moment when Tilikum drug instructor by his foot under and tossed him around with out letting go. The entire time the whale brought him down he stayed calm and didn't panic. While watching I realized I was holding my breath just waiting for Tilikum to either let go of him or eat him. After three times I think he finally let him go and the instructor got free. You can see in the picture that although being tossed around underwater the trainer remains poised and tries to just go with it. I really enjoyed the film and it opened my eyes to many things that I was completely unaware of. I had heard stories in the news but didn't realize the extremity of the situation. Overall a really great documentary!

Blackfish
I chose to rematch the documentary Blackfish, because I watched it before and I really enjoyed it. This documentary is all about killer whales that are captured, or born into captivity at Sea World. The documentary specifically focused on a whale named Tilikum, because he killed multiple trainers while he was in captivity. I chose to stop the film on the scene in the beginning when they were discussing the beginning of capturing orca whales for entertainment purposes. In the shot you can see the baby whales in the nets being captured, while their families are swimming in the water very close by crying because the babies are being taken away. This scene is very powerful because it shows you how horrible and cold hearted putting these whales into captivity is. It shows the viewer that these killer whales have a sense of family and closeness just like humans, so it really stirs up some sympathy in the viewer. After I watched this documentary, it completely changed my view on animal captivity and I made a vow to myself that I would never go to the zoo or Sea World again. This documentary was very moving and caused me to not want to support animal cruelty by placing them into captivity.

MINE:)
For mine
I once again watched a documentary called A Man Who Delivers, A
day in the life of a London cocaine dealer. I stopped at a specific moment that
really can sum up the whole idea of the documentary. The scene, like the whole
documentary was centered on the car. That’s because he uses the car so often
that it has literally become apart of him. That is why they had added the
clock. Its 23:00 because that clock started at 0:00. They are literally trying
to show that this job has become him and all of his time. They reinforce this
with other scenes that show that it has taken over his whole life/ “whole day”
They use scenes with text messages. They use music with these that imply that he’s
losing something that…lets be honest…he doesn’t deserve if he cant pick a legal
job. I can understand why someone would sympathies with this person, but if you
told them…cocaine takes up my whole day and is wrecking my family. You would
say, “QUIT!” So, they do a great job. As he rides around the day literally
turns to night, and he does nothing but drive. Once again to imply it takes
over his whole life.

Blackfish
The documentary that I decided to watch was an 83 minute documentary called Blackfish, which centered on the treatment of killer whales. I had very mixed thoughts on this documentary because so many different viewpoints were given throughout the documentary. I chose to take this picture and analyze it because it gave many different peoples thoughts after the death of a killer whale trainer. After the death of this trainer the OSHA sued Sea World on the grounds that it is unsafe to put humans into tanks with killer whales. During these short clips in the documentary you can see that the news stations and experts said that this death would greatly effect Sea World and that they should completely take away the killer whale shows. On the other hand many trainers have very close bonds to these animals and the say that they have the best relationships possible with the whales. These trainers know what they are getting into and they still go out and do their job everyday. In my opinion if these trainers feel safe and secure with their everyday job they should be able to go out and do it. While doing any job there is a chance of a fatal injury, just because of a few instances where animals attack trainers reporters begin to act as if this is the only way to be injured during a job.
Into the Abyss
The documentary I'm writing on is the one we watched in class. I was particularly intrigued by the way the film was set up because the characters were weird. The inmate at the beginning seems to have a nervous tick but is somehow still very accepting of what his possible fate may be. The whole situation seems very off and what was particularly interesting is the fact that somewhere in the film someone mentions that people love to be prison wives and are drawn to these dangerous men. I would think that someone in prison wouldn't be very attractive but it is definitely the opposite. One of he best stories within this documentary follows the woman who falls in love with the inmate and has his child because he somehow manages to smuggle out his semen. The woman is very in love with in the most interesting way.
My first screenshot I chose was of the woman caressing her belly but I changed it from that to a picture of a cross with just numbers, no names. I was so intrigued by the fact that when people this bad go to prison, their life gets skinned down to a number and eventually they have no one. If no one claims these people's bodies, they get thrown in this particular cemetery and are known by nothing but the numbers they wore in the prison. This seemed like a crucial moment because it really opens up the whole documentary and provides insight on a prisoners life by allowing you to think of them, essentially, as nothing. This seems like a very symbolic moment to think about because a lot of people have a fear of being alone, but in reality life is cruel and is well exemplified by this film because we all pass away alone. The numbers on the cross are just a different way of looking at that side of being dying alone because these ones leave you nameless, lost, and forgotten. I chose this because in class, you did not show the whole video and actually skipped over this intro part which, I believe, is very important.
{also, on a side note- I still can't seem to get my videos uploaded just yet because my phone is being difficult for some reason so I apologize and I'll get that fixed asap}

Documentary Scene
The documentary I decided to watch was Blackfish. It is about the whales in Sea World and if they should be kept in captivity because the Sea World whales have killed some of it's trainers and it has caused a huge controversy. The scene I paused it at was when the trainer Ken Peters is in the water with the whale and he is holding onto the whale for dear life. This picture is very documentary like because it is right in the middle of all the action. He had been in the water for a while now and the whale still had a hold of his leg. It is a close up shot to really show how scared he is and show how scary of a situation it really is. You can see that he is trying to stay as calm as possible in the picture so he does not egg on the whale and irritate it more.
Blackfish Documentary & videos
Blackfish Documentary
I watched the documentary called the blackfish where I was
very intrigued and interested in the many views it gave towards killer whales
having many dangerous encounters with strangers. It pointed out that sea world
would cover up all the bad stories to stay in business so that even the
trainers didn’t know about the actual truth with the killer whales they were
working with.
In this 83
minute documentary, I paused the screen to see an image of the biggest male
killer whale of them all (in the middle of a Sea World show), Tilikum having
blood rushing down the side of him. This was violence shown towards Tilikum by
other whales in the tank that he lived with.
Following up with this, Tilikum was so large that he has nowhere to
escape to get away from these other killer whales that wanted to hurt him. The
saddest part about it is that Sea World did nothing about it. This shows that
Sea World is not in it for the whales and their comfortability but for the
business where they don’t even treat their trainers with respect in that they
give them false accusations about some of the whales. For example, Tilikum
killed a trainer in Victoria, BC where only directors saw the incident and news
articles came out and said she drowned. They sent Tilikum to Sea World where he
continued to work with trainers after he had just killed a young girl. This
shows how they will do anything to keep things running smoothly, even if it
means putting their trainers in danger. I think this illustration from the documentary
shows that Sea World is doesn’t care about the whales which is part of the
reason why a lot of them are getting hurt and hurting other people.

This video was taken with an iPhone 5 of orange juice. It was a little difficult to have a still shot because the fan was making the orange juice move in the container.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veDpPNdNeFU&feature=youtu.be
This video was taken with an iPhone 5 of a tree on a sunny day. I decided to video record this because i love nature. It was very difficult to have no movement in this video as for i had to shoot the camera in an upward motion which made it difficult to keep it steady.
I watched the documentary Into The Abyss. I chose a still shot of the murder scene with blood under the rugs because I thought that was an important and deep moment in the film. It is a documentary-like shot and it is real because it is from police video captured at the scene of the crime. It is a close up shot of the rug and blood underneath it. The position of the camera is almost directly above the blood and rugs. It is police footage so the camera person is obviously not in the shot. The shot is clear and in color with no juxtaposition. The setting of the picture is inside the house where the murder took place and there is no props because it is actual police footage.
Documentary Moment and Videos
The documentary that I watched was “Into the Abyss”. I
paused the film at the section where Charles is being interviewed, about the
death of his brother Jeremy. I paused at the part where he is holding up the
two pictures of Jeremy, talking about them, and also showing mournful emotions.
The image is documentary-like (with the film being obviously, a documentary)
representing an event that had actually happened. The camera placed so that Charles
face is visible as well as the two pictures that he is showing. The background
is hugely significant to the impact of this scene as well. The greenery behind
Charles is beautiful, and there is also a playground. This kind of represents innocence
in the scene that is being filmed, showing a children’s playground along with
the beauty of nature. Each of these factors seems highly composed by the
producer, who wanted to make use of everything possible to make this
scene/picture as effective as possible. Everything visually at that moment accommodates
the mood and the topic at the time. It is a very powerful moment that is
captured, reflecting Charles’ emotion for his loss, supported by the setting
and mood of everything around him.

Black Fish
The documentary that I decided to watch was Black Fish, a film that tells the sad story of the killer whales that are being mistreated over at Sea World in San Diego, California. The film starts telling the story of the killer whales being in the wild and being brutally being captured and being separated from their mothers in the process. The main whale that was made known to the audience is Tilikum, who was separated from his mother at a very young age and was Sea Worlds main attraction. It goes in depth about how they would inhumanly hurt him if he would disobey their orders. Eventually this would catch up, Tilikum started acting out and hurting the trainers and soon enough kill a few. This came to be because of the brutal and inhumane ways of "training" was going on behind the doors at Sea World. It's sad to know that this continues to go on even though the acts was made public, the crazy behavior goes on. This is an intense and moving documentary that opens the eyes of the public to what goes behind the entertainment they love so much.
I wanted to watch the documentary by the name of Blackfish. I choose to watch it because i've heard about it and it looked very intriguing to me. I paused on the scene where they are showing how the whales were kept in the beginning; in something called a module which is a tiny little pool for these giants, 20 feet across and 30 feet deep and all lights were turned off. This way of keeping whales in captivity most likely led the whales to catch a case of psychosis. The whales that are in captivity are all traumatized psychologically because they were kept in a bathtub for close to 25 years, basically forced to act in exchange for food. The scene i stopped, it was a close up of 2 friend whales hanging out near other in a kiddie pool, and footage of this scene looked to me like a crime scene video recorded on an old camera, old and creepy. This documentary was about Seaworld and the largest orca called Tilikum who has killed trainers and Seaworld continues to keep him employed. They also use Tilikum to breed, he has some nice genes for orcas because they do fancy tricks and all his baby's will take his killing personality.
This video is an was filmed outside at my favorite chilling spot near the MU. This guy is from Saudi, Arabia and he is part of a royal family back home, always lecturing. Tried to be as still as possible.
Documentary
I chose to watch Blackfish which was a very interesting film. There were many intriguing shots to this film but the part I decided to stop on was when Tilikum, the killer whale, grabbed the Sea World trainer by the hair. Dawn Brancheau was completely unaware that the whale was going to attack her. She was looking somewhat away from the whale and then suddenly you see her head whip back as the whale grab her hair and pulled her into the water. I stopped it exactly when you see the trainer's head pull back. From this scene you can only conclude that the rest of the footage is violent. The footage does not have the best quality but is very credible because it was shot from a camera in the crowd. It is a bit frightening to watch a violent scene like this and the unfortunate thing is that there is not much you can do to stop a 12000 pound killer whale. Unfortunately, the damage inflicted on the trainer was too much for her to handle which led to her death.

Documentary
The frame of
the movie that I chose to analyze was when a former Sea World trainer is being
interviewed. He is talking about what happened when they separated the baby
whale from its mom. This is a very sad and intense scene. It depicts how horrible
it was to watch the mom whale stay in the corner of the pool crying out for her
baby. They were able to intensify this scene by how they shot it as well. They
places the person being interviewed on the side of the screen. The slight angle
they filmed it at depicted him having a conversation with the interviewer even
though he was the only one talking. The closeness of the shot showed the importance
of the subject. They also blurred out the background behind the person being
interviewed. This causes the viewer to focus all of their attention on the
person and what they are saying.
Documentary Still + Videos
When I paused Jiro
Dreams of Sushi, I stopped on an image of a crowd of fish dealers examining
the different tunas in a warehouse before they buy them. The point of view in
this image is standing on the outside of the scene looking down, almost as if
to represent the hectic atmosphere within the warehouse. The shot is also a bit
of a long shot, being farther away from the crowd. This simultaneously focuses
on every single fish dealer and represents the fact that they are all searching
for the same thing and go through the same sort of process due to their jobs. The
setting of the still is inside of a warehouse, which gives it a dingy sort of
look. This shows that the warehouse is crowded and chaotic, and may not be the
most pleasant place to be in. It gives the shot a sort of stressed look.
Documentary Assignment
It’s a Girl:
After watching the documentary, I decided to pause it at a
point when Mitu was with one of her daughters. It was a close-up. The camera is
positioned at a level angle. The image was clear on Mitu’s face, but one of her
daughters was in the middle of the frame and she was blurred. You could also
see her other daughter in the background, and she was also blurred. There was a
juxtaposition in this shot. Mitu was in the last third of the frame and
completely focused on one of her daughters who was exactly in the middle. The
frame is definitely documentary-like. The background is completely blurred, as
well as the foreground. The only part that is not blurred is Mitu’s face. This still
frame definitely tells a story. Where I paused it, Mitu is smiling at her
daughter. Her daughter is not only in the center of the frame, but in the
center of Mitu’s attention. You can see the love that Mitu has for her daughter
just by looking at her smile at her.
Documentary and Shots
The documentary that I chose to watch is Blackfish. The scene that I paused on was when the killer whale seemed to purposefully land of its male trainer. This image is most definitely documentary-like because it is the actual video from the scene. It is not a reenactment so it shows exact what truly happened on that day. This picture seems like it is not a too far away shot. It is close enough to see the man begin to arch his back, as a protective instinct, from the whale. One thing that I noticed is that the video quality of all of the evidence is not the greatest. They seem to be obviously taken by random people in the crowds who luckily caught the events unfold on camera. Therefore in this part where I paused, you can see just enough to realize the severity of the incident. At this point in time, you know that the trainer is going to come out either severely injured or dead.

30 second video
I decided to do my documentary on my dad and interview him on his
experiences with the Air Force. He is retiring this upcoming April so I
think it will be interesting to see what he has to reflect on after 24
years of service. He is the best guy I know and I couldn't have chosen
anyone better. For my video I mainly just played with iMovie and put
together some still shots that I could use along with some background
music.

This is a 40 second video of my dorm room with no action at first and then later in the evening with my roommate playing a video game. It's an off center recording approach that I shot with my iPod.
Disneyland 30 second video
For my video I chose to do Disneyland, California. I will interview people to see their love for disneyland. The short video shows how happy people are at the happiest place on earth. I will show close up on faces to get the full expression the person is trying to portray. I used my iPhone 5 to record the video.
