Youth by Tom Petroni
I watched the documentary Youth by Tom Petroni. As I was scrolling through the list of documentaries I really could not decided which one to choose until I saw Youth. As college students we are starting to realize how fast time goes by. In high school I never cherished the fact that we are so young and we need to take everything we can for granite. I finally realized this once I got to college, "wow I need to grow up." Those words break my heart because I am not ready to grow up. These are the best years of our life and they should not be wasted. This is the time we need to take advantage of our youth and flaunt it. In the E-book Documentary Film: A very short introduction it explains that documentaries are about real life, they are not real life. This is tied with the documentary I wanted because it shows how the youth should be outside and having fun. Now not all kids and teenagers agree with that. It is basically stating it's opinion on what the youth could be doing to live their young years to the best of their ability. Another way this documentary can be related to the E-book is when the book talks about how artists of the documentaries see themselves as primarily artists. In the Youth documentary there were no words used just simple music with children having a good time with their friends and enjoying the beach. This documentary was based on a teenager showing his ode to all of his friends. He had taken videos of him enjoying his time with his friends and being young. A lot of the videos were taken at the beach which to me shows teenagers being young and free. The beach just gives that type of vibe of happiness. It is a perfect example of youth because maybe some day we can't always run around on the sand and in the water. Of course we can always have a good time with our loved ones and friends but we may not always be able to do the young crazy things young people do. These are the best years of our life and it goes by so fast. I never realized how fast life moves until I got to college and realized that in less than two months my first college year will be over. Isn't that crazy? Cherish your youth the best way possible so when you grow old you have no regrets.
