Black Bike Week

Documentaries have been being produced since the late nineteenth century. They are movies about people’s real lives.  Documentaries are beneficial because they inform you in specific subjects that most people are not relevant to. I think they are the most valuable films that are out in society because it gives us the best information on a person besides reading a book or listening to a film. A Very Short Introduction by Patricia Aufderheide shows the many meanings on what a documentary is and gives many examples of documentaries and showing how they can relate to and change people’s lives. Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 was probably one of the most recent and most dramatic documentary that portrayed the lives of many people trapped inside the Twin Towers during the airplane attack. Other documentaries in the short story such as Jarecki’s Why We Fight showcases an argument about the conclusion between politicians, big businesses, and the military to spend the public’s money and lives for wars that do not need to be fought. As you can see there are many kinds of documentaries out there all showing people’s different lives going on whether it could be arguing about one thing or just simply talking about their lives.

I decided to watch a short documentary called Black Bike Week. I chose this film because I thought it was going to be very fun, interesting, and entertaining to me because I personally think documentaries are boring if it is not something that intersects me. Black Bike Week is a documentary showing the many lives of black bikers and their views on having these bike meets. At first impression I thought they were going to talk about how they were being discriminated against the whiter biker gang because usually back in California, all you see is old white guys riding their Harleys around town. But actually there really is no separation between the black and white biker gains. One guy said that they don’t mind each other and those they are all out there just to have a good time. “Everyone has a story to tell out here,” said a biker. Many guys come from far and wide to these meets to tell what they have to offer which is an amazing feeling to them. Think about it, there is so much going on in one persons life that most people could never guess but when you get together and sit down with people of your same interest, it makes it so much more easier to express yourself and let the community know more about yourself.
