When I paused Jiro
Dreams of Sushi, I stopped on an image of a crowd of fish dealers examining
the different tunas in a warehouse before they buy them. The point of view in
this image is standing on the outside of the scene looking down, almost as if
to represent the hectic atmosphere within the warehouse. The shot is also a bit
of a long shot, being farther away from the crowd. This simultaneously focuses
on every single fish dealer and represents the fact that they are all searching
for the same thing and go through the same sort of process due to their jobs. The
setting of the still is inside of a warehouse, which gives it a dingy sort of
look. This shows that the warehouse is crowded and chaotic, and may not be the
most pleasant place to be in. It gives the shot a sort of stressed look.
