The documentary that I watched was title I beat Mike Tyson, it had to do with an Irish born man who once beat Mike Tyson in a boxing match. At the time of the fight, Kevin McBride was an unknown fighter who was thought of as a easy victory for Mike Tyson. The fight ended up going six rounds and with a knockout punch delivered to Mike Tyson by Kevin McBride. This was huge news all around the world because Tyson is considered to be one of the greatest with an insanely heavy hand, who has not been handed many loses. Who was this guy? Who is Kevin McBride? Is he the next great Fighter? many questions were being thrown around after the fight and everyone wanted to know what was going to be the future of Kevin McBride. Some said he would be the next great fighter, but instead he just vanished and disappeared from the main stage.
Years later filmmaker Joshua Z Weinstein rediscovered him and revealed that he is in a small Boston suburb with his wife and kids living a normal life. Instead of going forward with boxing on the main stage he settled down with a family by the surprise of many. Although Kevin did not step away from boxing altogether, he stills periodically steps back into the ring still holding onto the dream of being a heavy weight champion. Even though he may lose almost every fight and with his wife not wanting him to continue fighting so he can see his kids grow up, he does not want to let go of his dream.
He is an ambitious man who just wants one more glory run before he hangs up his gloves forever, one last hurrah. Even though he did something that only a handful of men have ever or will ever do, he still does not keep that to console him, he needs that glory one last time. It's a great story of comeback and determination but with the years passing by and his body only getting older, will he ever see it again? This documentary captured an essence of love, passion and a willingness to not give up, that is why I chose this short film.
