Caine's Arcade

The documentary I watched was called Caine’s Arcade. This short documentary was filmed by Nirvan Mullick and was about a very bright 9 year old boy whose imagination led him to create his own arcade out of cardboards boxes and basic everyday office tools. This kid is so bright that he has an article on Forbes that gives nine reasons why he will most likely become a billionaire in approximately 30 years. He spent his summer vacation with his dad at the shop and managed to take up most of the store with his cardboard arcade. Caine ran his business out of his father’s auto parts store in Los Angeles. When you win in any of these arcade games, Caine will climb into the boxes and literally push tickets out of a slot for you, my favorite part. For security, Caine also has calculators attached to all the games to verify the authenticity of his fun passes which he sells for two dollars and the prizes are his toys. Nirvan Mullick, the filmmaker, was Caine’s first customer and was amazed by the little kid and was also inspired by Caine to create this documentary. After speaking with Caine’s father and realizing Caine is not getting any customers, he decides to start a flash mob at Caine’s arcade while Caine was away with his father. Nirvan created a Facebook event and shared the story on Reddit which instantly went viral. Caine is then brought to the shop where hundreds of customers are waiting for him. Caine’s father said that to this day they still get a lot of customers and a college scholarship fund was created for Caine, which is currently at $236,000. Something worth knowing that this documentary illustrated was imagination, to be like a child and go out and fulfill your dreams without thinking about profitability. Being unrestricted in thought, in my opinion, is the essence of being creative. This kid showed that we should all learn from our own different forms of creativity, just be creative and do it for the fun and enjoyment and to better all our lives. This was the best thing I’ve seen in a while; I would have never expected a little kid to inspire me and so many people with his imagination and creativity. Filmmakers have many choices when creating a documentary, such as shots and what to do with scenes as well as the meanings behind the soundtracks. For this documentary, there was a folk singer near the end of the film who basically summarized Caine’s story which was pretty neat.
