The documentary I'm writing on is the one we watched in class. I was particularly intrigued by the way the film was set up because the characters were weird. The inmate at the beginning seems to have a nervous tick but is somehow still very accepting of what his possible fate may be. The whole situation seems very off and what was particularly interesting is the fact that somewhere in the film someone mentions that people love to be prison wives and are drawn to these dangerous men. I would think that someone in prison wouldn't be very attractive but it is definitely the opposite. One of he best stories within this documentary follows the woman who falls in love with the inmate and has his child because he somehow manages to smuggle out his semen. The woman is very in love with in the most interesting way.
My first screenshot I chose was of the woman caressing her belly but I changed it from that to a picture of a cross with just numbers, no names. I was so intrigued by the fact that when people this bad go to prison, their life gets skinned down to a number and eventually they have no one. If no one claims these people's bodies, they get thrown in this particular cemetery and are known by nothing but the numbers they wore in the prison. This seemed like a crucial moment because it really opens up the whole documentary and provides insight on a prisoners life by allowing you to think of them, essentially, as nothing. This seems like a very symbolic moment to think about because a lot of people have a fear of being alone, but in reality life is cruel and is well exemplified by this film because we all pass away alone. The numbers on the cross are just a different way of looking at that side of being dying alone because these ones leave you nameless, lost, and forgotten. I chose this because in class, you did not show the whole video and actually skipped over this intro part which, I believe, is very important.
{also, on a side note- I still can't seem to get my videos uploaded just yet because my phone is being difficult for some reason so I apologize and I'll get that fixed asap}
