A Man Who Delivers

The documentary that I decided to watch was A Man Who Delivers. This documentary centered on the work of a cocaine dealer in London and the life that he lives. This documentary was really interesting because it didn’t focus on the illegal aspects of the drug trade, but more on the amount of calls that he received and the life that he lived. This documentary generally focused on the demand that this particular dealer supplied. This video’s picture mainly consisted of the dealer traveling to make his deliveries throughout the day and the texts that he received from the people buying from him. In the E Book it’s said that directors like to see themselves as storytellers and not journalists. this can easily be seen in this documentary when by the way the picture was set up and the way that the story was told. The life of this drug dealer that consisted of a lot of work was easily told in a six minute time frame, which if you ask me is really impressive that anybody can do that. I found this very interesting because I never really imagined that somebody that sells cocaine could have such a relaxed life style.  This man lives everyday of his life with the possibility of being arrested and he is just calmly explaining it like it’s a normal everyday job. The director brings in aspects that make this line of work look easy for the dealer. An example of this would be when the dealer goes to sell cocaine at somebodies house he takes their interior design ideas. This just makes it seem like even though he is working in a high risk line of work he doesn’t need to worry and he can just live life normally while distributing. I actually found it kind of funny that this man makes something as frowned upon as drug dealing seem casual. He ties his own life into this documentary and talks about his family and girlfriends.  The dealer says that it is hard to keep a steady relationship although he can support a family and provide for fun things like vacations. He says the reason for this is that even though they live a nice life together eventually his girlfriends always ask him to change his ways. Overall I believe that this is a great short documentary that was very interesting and kind of took you into the life of both the dealer and the people buying the drugs.
