The article I chose was Reality TV Producers should be responsible for participant’s well-being. When I created my stakeholder map I started putting in the “easy” stakeholders that I knew worked for the article right away. When I had the first few down I looked through the article for additional ideas and added those. Then I went through the comments on the blog and found more stakeholders to add to the map. When I had about seven stakeholders I went through and edited them because a couple of them overlapped. The final five stakeholders I chose are producers, participants, the network, rules of ethics/morals, and the show writers or planners. Producers are stakeholders because this article is directed towards reality TV producers and how they should be responsible for the well being of the participants. Producers make sure the agenda for the day happens such as the show’s challenge and organizing what clubs the cast goes to for that episode. They set up the whole setting and let the cast members do their thing. People question why do the producers not step in when they see someone who is in danger or is completely drunk out of their minds. The participants are even stakeholders in this because they are the ones that signed up to do the show. Many people argue that they are adults and should not have to be babied while they are on the show. It is also argued that they know what they are getting into and should know their limits but when these people are willing to do anything to get their fame so doesn’t that cloud their judgment? I think a lot of them think they are capable of handling the pressure but are not. The article itself is about there being a set of rules of ethics for reality shows to follow. In the comments there was a lot of back and forth about whether there should be some limitations or no limitations due to the fact that the participants are adults and know what they have signed up for. My big questions are who decides the limits, how they are enforced and what if the participants do not agree with these limits? Will creating these rules even solve the problem people have with reality TV? I think it will be too hard to create a set of rules for the contestants to follow because everyone is different. I chose the networks for a stakeholder because they approve the shows and what they can do on them. They create the shows we watch and love today so I think they are a key player in this. The networks choose to put these partiers and dare devils on TV for ratings and for money. Lastly I chose the show writers/planners but I put a question mark by that. I am not sure if it is a strong stakeholder but I chose them because they are the ones that decide the places and challenges the cast participates in.
I like the way you approached the map by checking all comments and just overlapping what everyone thought was the top reasons/stakeholders. The layout is good so far, but you should try add in more open-ended questions/comments on what everyone thinks about each. The questions you asked are a good start, but maybe trying to thoroughly explain them and hit as many questions/answers as you can will help! Good job so far though!
ReplyDeleteI think you covered all of the most important stakeholders behind this issue. I also liked the way you figured them out, by overlapping everyone else's comments. You should definitely add on to each of these though, going into a little more detail as to WHY they're such a big part of the issue. Maybe start by listing the main reason why these stakeholders/reasons are involved directly with the issue. Other than that, everything looks good and you're on the right track!
ReplyDeleteYou covered the most important ones. It had no explanation though. I think that we should also add things that may be impacted...even though it most likely wont. Every year there are times that small things that we would not think would make big time news, break out. This is why I think you should add, the average person. Small things can impact everyone's lives...look at edward snowden. Doubt he thought he would make this much of an impact
ReplyDeleteVery well done ccabrera. Even though your charts were a but less explanatory you still hit the topics. I re-read the article and and found that you were right on point. It is true that the people actually do know what they are getting themselves into and just want the fame. Personally I would do some things to get the fame but I know my limits. I also agree with Destiny that you should end your comments with a question so you could keep the audience guessing. Overall nice job in your post and way to tell what these adults are getting themselves into.
ReplyDeleteYou have really good stakeholders, but you didn't really elaborate in your map at all. It is hard to tell what the opinions of the stakeholders are without it in the map. It is also hard to tell which stakeholder belongs on which side. I like how you approached finding stakeholders for your map. It was a really good idea to start out with a longer list and then eliminate the ones that overlapped too much. I feel like you have some really good points, but you just need to elaborate on them more.
ReplyDeleteI think that the process that you went through to get your stakeholders was very smart. One thing that I noticed about yours is that you didn't write your reasonings for why each stakeholder is a stakeholder on your actual map. Although you did elaborate underneath, I think that it would be beneficial to get it all on the map. Other than that I think that you have some very good ideas.
ReplyDeleteYour presentation of the different stakeholders is really good and envelops this idea of the difference between producing and consuming. One one end, you have the ethical portion of reality TV, where there are those who care a lot about the ethical aspect of a show and how it is run. And on the other end you have the stakeholders that maintain their mentality on monetary and publicity benefits.
ReplyDeleteYour method of finding your stakeholders was really cool. I found this to be one of the best ways to do it so that you can truly understand those who actually are apart of the issue. However, like everyone has stated already, i believe that you could post a lot more of examples or quotes of things people have said to give support to both sides of the argument as well as expanding your diagram. Overall great job though!
ReplyDeleteShort and sweet, I love it! I like the way you found your stakeholders; I might have to steal this method lol. I think you definitely fulfilled the assignment, but you might want to add explanations and details to your map, just to help yourself out with the rest of the project. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI think you really nailed the stakeholders that are most prevalent to this article. I really like how you took both sides into consideration as well. Having the consumer and producer side will surely enhance your paper. The rule of ethics was definitely a key point to add to this so good job on that. The only thing I could say could better this would be to add comments or descriptions to further expand your mind map.
ReplyDeleteThis a very good beginning structure to your map! This a first building block to making your map and I like how you made it simplistic so you know where to add other ideas to the appropriate bubble. Of course you have more to add such as some writings about this topic that was written by some people on the blog to get their point of view on this topic. Maybe you could also add some outside sources like articles that are related to this topic as well. And one little thing as well, maybe some more color. other than those few touch ups for your map, its a very solid foundation to work with and it can only go up from here.
ReplyDeleteI really like the explanation of the process you went through to determine what to put in this map and the way you approached the stakeholders being the ultimate reason to the issue. I feel that it may need a little more detail, maybe even comments or explanations on how these stakeholders hold a firm spot on your map. Overall, I think you can justify and back up each of these stakeholders. I also must add that you might want to add the ones for and against, maybe separating opinions on each side of the map. Just a suggestion.
ReplyDeleteI thought your topic choice was interesting. I thought your map was well-executed and I think you expressed who the important stakeholders were from your article in your map. I think your thought process of deciding who the stakeholders were was very smart and well-organized. I also had to look at all of my stakeholders and decide which ones overlapped. From reading your paragraph, I think you paid a lot of attention to detail and I think that it shows not only in your explanation, but also in your map.
ReplyDeleteA suggestion could be what outsiders, like TV show viewers, think about the participants' well-being as well as their opinions on producer involvement. Overall, I think you did a good job.
