Rough Draft

Stakeholder 1:

Family of the Prisoner:

Belief: They would probably believe that preforming new drug cocktails on the prisoners is wrong. Even though their relative is sentenced to death, they wouldn’t want them to suffer any more than they have to. They would probably have sympathy for their relative and want them to be treated as humane as possible.

Persuasion Techniques: In order to change the opinions on the relatives, you would probably have to mainly use logos. You would have to make them sympathize with the victim’s family. You would probably have to convince them that their relative will be ok and that the new drug cocktails are not going to make them suffer any more. A little bit of ethos might be helpful to show them that these mixtures are designed by professional scientists to help put their mind at ease. However, over all I think pathos is the way to go.

Stakeholder 2:

Family of the Victim:

Belief: The family of the victim is going to sympathize with their relative. They are going to want the prisoner to be punished for what they did. They wouldn’t have a problem with testing new drugs on the victims even if it risked them suffering more than they have to.

Persuasion Techniques: In order to change the opinions of the victim’s family members, you would probably have to use a mixture of pathos and ethos. Pathos would probably be the more dominant technique though. For example, you would have to get them to sympathize with the prisoner and tell them that they shouldn’t have to suffer any more than they already are.

  1. Madison did a very good job with the beliefs and persuasion techniques. Although I thought this was all supposed to be put into a rough draft. Either way it is all good and a very good brainstorm. I really like how she showed how do persuade peoples techniques through ethos, pathos, or logos. You could also add possibly the judge as a stakeholder too because he/she is the one who ultimately decides whether or not to give the prisoner the lethal dose. Overall I think this is a very well written draft about the stakeholders and shows the reasons behind each side on wether or not to use the lethal dose.

    1. I agree with Luke in the fact that you had a very well thought out brainstorm and the persuasion techniques definitely helped your cause. I also like how you brought Ethos, Logos, and Pathos into the brainstorm and used it to bring people to accept your persuasion technique. Something that might help would be adding couple more sides of the final draft (such as the judge). But overall i think this is very well thought out and each sides viewpoint is easily visible.

    2. I agree with Bradley, it should be in draft form- but still good! I think you need to specifically state what you would say when using each persuasive technique so that people get a general idea of how they'd feel as far as convincing goes- great start though!

  2. I agree with Luke that you did a good job on the beliefs and persuasion. it is very well thought through. This brainstorm seems like a great start and you should have no problem writing your paper. You used all the information discussed in class include ethos, pathos and logos and think that will definitely play in your favor when the grades come out. Good luck on your final edit!

  3. I really like how you are approaching your rough draft and I think I am going to steal this idea. I think you have a good frame work set up and then you will be able to break it down and write more in depth. I think researching more articles that talk about these new drug concoctions will really help support your stance.

  4. I also agree with Luke. You made a good rough draft and it is very well thought out. Completely makes a lot of sense. I think you should add a few more articles and look through the powerpoint one more time prior to a final draft to help you out.

  5. I really like this draft because even though it hasn't yet been composed into standard essay form, it lays out all the focal points that the essay should center around. All the key points you want to hit on have been put down and the information that you will put towards them is already provided. It's a great way to blueprint the essay.

  6. I really like this draft because of the type of writing style you took it, it's not just the same essay everyone does but a new way of presenting the stakeholders. Just add a heading and a conclusion and this will a really solid.

  7. I like how it seems to show how you transferred all of your information from your Stakeholders map down correctly. You have great ideas for a starting point for your essay!

  8. This presentation of your draft is very unique and different. Like other drafts, you have presented your major points with your stakeholders, and their respective arguments. However, I especially like your separation of categories with the "belief" and persuasion. It really expresses a new perspective on the different arguments and the ideas that they are meaning to portray.

  9. You have some pretty solid ideas and overall its a good start. You need to maybe do a little more research on some articles and add some effective information, but other than that you're on the right track.

  10. This is a good start for a draft. I would say find at least one or two more stakeholders to build a stronger essay. I really like how you listed the persuasive technique you are going to use, that is going to help you a lot when it comes down to writing the essay.
