The Untested Drug Cocktail/The Death Penalty

For my stakeholder map I decided to just include the posts/articles that I thought had the main points of each side of the arguments. Originally I picked this topic because it was the one that I thought was one of the more controversial, therefore easier to find information to argue both sides. Unfortunately to my dismay it was a bit harder then I had expected. After going through the blog post on this topic and all the comments I realized that there were only a few people who actually had valid arguments "for" this topic and no concrete "against" arguments were made. Most were conflicted and chose to stand somewhere in the middle. So with that I read the original article and ran into similar problems, the majority of the comments were made in favor of the death penalty and the drug cocktail, but I was unable to use a lot of these comments because they weren't really developed thoughts and more like just people putting in there opinions. Then I ventured out to the web and found an article that was an argument against the drug cocktail, using references to the article given to us. This helped a bit, but the same issues popped up with the comments on that article as well. I chose these specific comments/pieces to be on my map because I feel that in each of them they contribute to the overall problem. What surprised me about doing this assignment was the amount of digging I had to do in order to come up with valid points for both sides of the argument. Another issue that I had was trying to distance myself from my own opinion to get decent information on the argument that opposes my own. Overall I can now see in which ways I can make my argument stronger for Writing Project One, and the importance of mapping it out because it can be fairly easy to get off track.

  1. Firstly, this map is perfect. Not only does it thoroughly explain your feelings for an against the issues but it's also obvious you spent a lot of time working on it. This article was really controversial so I can see why it must've been pretty hard to get started on it but your research really paid off! I love that you listed all the states that approve and deny the death penalty because it brought in an even bigger perspective for people to think about when they throw their opinion out there. Each argument you made was solid- I can't even tell which side you're on( which is awesome because it's so convincing!)

    1. I agree with what you're saying here, i think Briana made a great map and the issue she choose makes you think for minute. I think her arguments are very valid and i agree with her points she makes too. I like how she made it hard to see which side she is on.

  2. I really like the map! You really went into great detail! I especially love the states with and without the death penalty. I think we should note about the drug companies. These are not cheap, and they come from somewhere. Please check mine out. It talks about those that are affected by that story of the guy who wanted to donate his organs: http://www.mindmup.com/#m:g10B3fFJGyskGx5eDMxVDBmNFdOeUE

  3. I think you did a really good job on your map! It's very well organized and is also easy to follow, which is important because, as you said, it can be easy to fall off track. I think that you added in a lot of important pieces that can be useful to support both sides of the argument, and I especially liked the lists you added in of the states with the death penalty as well as the states without the death penalty. I have to agree with Andrew when he said that you should include a note about the drug companies and the price of these drugs being used, because they do play a big role in this issue. Other than that, I don't see anything else that needs to be fixed or added to the map. Everything looks good.

  4. I think you did a very good job on your map. It is obvious that you put a lot of time and effort into it. I really like the amount of detail you put into it. I think it was how you used quotes from the article to show the different opinions on the topic. I feel like you might need some overall stakeholders to make your different groups a little more specific. Overall, I think you did a lot of really good research and that this map could be easily turned into a great essay.

  5. I really like how you made your map. The way that you laid it out made it very easy to understand and you went into a good amount of detail in my opinion. You mention that you found it kind of challenging to keep your own ideas and opinions out of your map but I think that you did a very good job in staying not biased. Your map really helped me get a better idea on how I am going to lay out my own map!

  6. In all honesty, this map is really good! I was actually wanting to do this topic but after a lot of research I found myself at a stand still of where to go with this topic, and after looking at your post i'm glad i'm not the only one having problems with this topic. My map looked no where near how yours looks . My new one on the topic of religious healing seemed to work well for me. I find it best to look deep into the comments to find good, non-biased comments about the issue. Some people actually have a clue as to what they're talking about without being biased.

  7. Great map, well detailed, and great arguments. This is probably the best post of the class.I also can agree with Brooks that is very hard to fall of track with a lot of information. But, you seemed to organize it very well so the reader can depict what it going on. After i was reading the article, I found that it is immoral to use a bad practice on an individual and this should be changed immediately. Overall great job.

  8. The structure of your map is very clear and easy to understand. I like how you organized it; it definitely gave me an idea on how to start mine! I think you did a good job keeping your opinion out of it too. That's awesome that you went outside our blog, and did more research on the Internet to help you out.

  9. This is a really good map! I think its a great idea how you separated the two sides of this topic so it would be easier to read and understand what is trying to be said. Another strong piece about your map is how much information you have, not only did you include the ideas of the people that wrote in the blog about this subject but also other articles that you researched on your own. This creates a bigger focus group and bigger analyst of the topic that is being shared. The only thing that I would advise is maybe implementing some color into the map to make to more welcoming and striking to that people will notice and read it. it may not help but that is just an idea. Other than that I would say this is a great first draft of your map and it will only go up from here.

  10. This is quite a good map. Like one of the previous maps, you highly generalized two of the concrete arguments on the topic. With each of these generalized views, you include several sub points that apply to each one. On top of all of that, each one of the sub-topics had an extensive explanation for it. This is important when describing different perspectives because of how much info is needed to pass a point across to a certain reader.

  11. This map is very organized and has a ton of great information on the different stakeholders. I am definitely going to base mine off of yours and try to get the amount of detail you have in yours into mine. I don’t really have any criticisms for this map because I think it is very well done. Its very easy to understand and follow the flow of information.

  12. I like the breakdown of your map. I think it's very clear what the main points are and what their views are. I think the fact that you decided to put the specifics of why you chose the people as stakeholders could have been done differnetly, only because it makes your map very large. However, I think your choice of adding some information was good. My suggestion would be to write summaries of the stakeholders, and not all of the evidence or reasoning behind it right off the bat.
Overall, I think your map is really well-organized. I can tell that you put a lot of time and effort into your map.
